The military's blanket ban on autism

The blanket ban on autism by the U.S. military is totally unacceptable, and, in some cases, downright alarming.

Let's start first off: Many of the same things that are being said about autistics today...are basically the same things that were being said about WOMEN not too long ago. And how did that turn out????
First of all, let's get the "alarming" part over with: I do not want to sound like a pessimist, but I must be realistic: With basically EVERYONE today being diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder...

WHAT IF THERE WAS A WAR??? WHO ARE THEY GOING TO GET TO GO????

I'm truly sorry to sound like an alarmist, but guess what? We're pretty much already vaporized. Women had to fight so long and hard - autistics MUST do the same. Not just to prove what they CAN do, but out of the interest of our national safety as well. So much today is being fought with technological and cyber warfare - and THESE ARE THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE THE BEST MINDSETS FOR THOSE JOBS!!!

The state of our economy and military right now, as we all know, is crumbling. We are facing the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression, and what could be largely to blame for that? We misuse people grossly. We live in a society that rewards social skills and punishes intellectual abilities - as a matter of fact, many choose to see intellectual abilities as *disabilities.* I myself have been a witness to a seventeen year old with the vocabulary of a Harvard professor, who wanted to become a neurosurgeon, being LOUDLY asked, in the middle of a gas station parking lot, if he needed to go "pee pee and poo poo in the potty." (And then of course, who was the sole member of that group who was treated like an adult, with dignity and respect? The thirteen year old girl who only cared about boys and makeup!)

It makes me extremely frustrated and angry to see intelligent, hard-working young men and women being unfairly denied opportunities that instead are going to those who pretty much have one thing on their minds: SEX. (Here I am a certified wildland firefighter, a cross-country running champion, a Dean's List student majoring in Criminal Justice...and, according to society, I MUST be ashamed and embarrassed to say that I have never climbed naked on top of anyone?! It's not like I haven't turned down twenty offers...) THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE STATE OF OUR ECONOMY AND MILITARY RIGHT NOW.

Autistic soldiers, Marines, sailors, airmen (emphasis on those last two; the Navy and the Air Force are the two branches that MUST recruit these men and women!) would WHIP US BACK INTO SHAPE. They would GET THE JOB DONE. These people don't screw around (you almost cannot help but wonder if that's the reason why they aren't accepted into our backwards society!) THEY GET THE JOB DONE. While the ones who are "abled" to our society are kicking it back with the gang, downing cold beer in an air-conditioned sports bar, the "disabled" ones are the ones who are running five miles in record heat...when it's supposed to be their day off...pushing themselves as fast as they can, despite the heat, solely due to the fact that they have a LOAD of coursework back home that they want to get done! IMAGINE THESE PEOPLE IN OUR ARMED FORCES! WOW! WHAT A DIFFERENCE THAT WOULD MAKE!!!

Oh and by the way...who all in history are they saying now were almost certainly autistic? GEORGE WASHINGTON! STONEWALL JACKSON! ROBERT E. LEE! BOTH LEWIS AND CLARK! JOAN OF ARC! Some of the greatest military heroes the world has ever had...! (I almost want to throw my ancestors William the Conqueror and Brian Boru in there as well.)

Look at how women had to fight and prove themselves - autistics MUST do the same. Why not restore this nation - and this world - back to the former glory!
