Ahem: I don't know why I wrote this. Just a quick fluffy piece that I wrote on my Victorian/steampunk altar-ego Noreen and her girlfriend. Fluffies may or may not be based on real-life Squishmallows. (And yes, there really is a Squishmallow named Liv. She was my first as a matter of fact, as some may know.)
Twas a quiet evening on the outskirts of Boston. Ah, home at last! Noreen thought. Well…at least close enough.
Stepping into her captain’s quarters, she lifted her latest prize out of her satchel. Already I’d fecking die for this bugger, she thought…it was an adorable soft unicorn, made of velvet and fluff. Yes, Noreen O’Dowd, a hardened airship pirate captain, had an extremely soft spot for Fluffies, a type of extremely soft, huggable stuffed animal, that had recently become all the rage. Already she had a tiger, a frog, and two types of cats. This unicorn was her fifth!
“New England’s God of the Bay Colony, my love. When are you going to get over this obsession…???” she heard *her* ask. She smirked, thinking of Mercy…or maybe it wasn’t just in her head? Noreen looked up to see her beautiful Puritan girlfriend standing in the doorway of her quarters, her fluffy gray cat at her heels.
“Hello, love!”-the Irish Catholic airship pirate started, only to be interrupted.
“Pray, don’t tell me that you got another one…?” Mercy asked, rolling her gorgeous blue eyes, her accent broadest Massachusetts, as it tended to be when she was annoyed.
“Isn’t she cute, a stor?!” Noreen smiled sheepishly at her love. Mercy rolled her eyes again and flipped back a lock of her long brown hair. Cat trotted up to Noreen and her unicorn, mewing in wonder at the newest addition.
Mercy made her way into the chambers and sank down onto Noreen’s large bed, which was home to the other four Fluffies. “You’re an airship pirate captain. Are these not…odd?” But Noreen could see a hint of a smile on her girlfriend’s face. Shameless Puritan as though she was (although she fell in love with a Catholic girl, Noreen kept reminding herself), Mercy did still have a sense of humor underneath her New England reserve.
“These are…wicked soft…” Mercy admitted, running her hand over one of the cats, somewhat similar to her own cat. Said cat was currently fascinated by the strange creature that her Aunt Noreen had brought home.
“Sure, you love them, a ghile? Don’t fecking lie to me!” Noreen giggled.
With that, Mercy threw the unicorn at her. “Witch, damned be your name.”
Noreen looked at her new unicorn Fluffy, lying at her feet. What should she name it?
“What do you think, love? I think I’ll name her…let’s see… Patience…Silence…Charity…” she threw out every red-blooded Massachusetts New England Puritan name to piss her girlfriend off “…oh wait a minute, what was your middle name again? Deliverance. Deliverance the Unicorn. Yes. That has a nice ring. But it’s a mouthful, and we’ll call her Liv…”
“Noreen Mary O‘Dowd,” Mercy Deliverance White growled, her lightning English temper more than a match for Noreen’s fiery Irish temper. Puritans never forgot where they came to *New* England from, after all. Noreen was starting to giggle. Finally Mercy broke down into giggles as well.
“Praise God, I don’t know what this bloody obsession of yours with these big-ass soft things are,” she laughed.
“Ah, shut it, love. You love them too. You said that they were ‘wicked soft’…didn’t you? Don’t fecking lie to me,” Noreen giggled. She loved her girlfriend…and Fluffies as well.
Cat rubbed against her Aunt Noreen and purred.
